THE MISSION OF THE M-TEC IS ...

to provide educational programs and services to individuals in preparation for employment. In addition, through workforce development training, business and industry partners in the Northern Michigan Region and their employees will be provided with educational opportunities specifically designed to upgrade and/or enhance the job skills necessary to compete in local, state, national and global economies.

M-TEC AT KIRTLAND-GAYLORD IS ...

more than a building with classrooms. It is a community resource intended to address challenges being presented by current and future changes in the workplace. It is a training resource for employers and employees of the business community and for members of the general public.

M-TEC began as a collaboration between business, labor, government, and education. It is dedicated to training, retraining, and updating job skills essential to high-demand, high-skill, high-wage occupations. It offers flexible learning opportunities designed to meet the needs of the learner. It draws upon expertise available in the community, both within the college and within industry and organized labor.

The M-TEC at Kirtland-Gaylord is a state-of-the art facility offering technical education in a unique, flexible, student-friendly manner. M-TEC features state-of-the-art equipment, pedagogy, and curriculum taught by experienced faculty. Students can choose a course of study and build it from hundreds of skill-specific modules, resulting in a dynamic, flexible program preparing graduates to enter into high-paying jobs.

Construction of this state-of-the-art facility began in July 2000 and was completed in time to begin offering a full complement of programs and services in January 2002. The M-TEC facility has been designed by business and industry for business and industry. Using the expertise and input of local and regional manufacturing, building trades, and technology professionals, architects and engineers have created a 28,000 square-foot facility capable of supporting the current and future workforce development training needs of the region.

The M-TEC facility contains both a precision tool and general manufacturing lab, construction technology labs, a welding lab, a computer-aided drafting and manufacturing design lab, and nursing and sonography labs, as well as classrooms that support general and computerized instruction.

Meeting rooms with state-of-the-art technology may be rented by business, industry, and community partners.
