M-TEC FINANCIAL AID

FINANCIAL AID TIPS FOR M-TEC STUDENTS

Students who plan on enrolling at the M-TEC at Kirtland-Gaylord may be eligible for financial aid. The process for applying for financial aid and some tips to help you are described below.

Complete an Application for Admission (online at http://kirtland.edu/admissions, or request a paper version).

  • Be sure to identify a program of study.
  • Have transcripts from your high school and all colleges attended sent to Kirtland Community College for evaluation.
  • If you do not have a high school diploma or GED, you must take and pass the Ability to Benefit test in order to receive financial aid. Contact the Gaylord M-TEC office at 989-705-3600 to schedule a test date and time.

Apply for financial aid.

  • Complete the Free Application for Financial Student Aid (FAFSA) online at www.fafsa.ed.gov.
  • Kirtland’s Title IV school code is 007171.
  • If you require a paper application, request one by calling the processing center at 800-433-3243.
  • Generally, you are notified by the Office of Financial Aid of eligibility within four to six weeks of completing the FAFSA.

Students receiving Title IV aid (Pell grants, FSEOG, ACG, and Stafford loans) must register for classes no later than the semester census date. You may call the M-TEC office at 989-705-3600 to get this date or check the Refund Policy section of the Kirtland/M-TEC schedule of classes.

Students eligible for Pell grants and Stafford loans who are enrolled in traditional programs (such as nursing and sonography) will be reimbursed no earlier than 30 days after the start of the semester.

Students eligible for Pell grants and Stafford loans who are enrolled in industrial trades programs will be reimbursed approximately one week prior to the end of each semester. This delay is intended to accommodate students who register for additional courses throughout the semester.

Information about Stafford loans may be obtained online at http://kirtland.edu/finaid or by contacting the Office of Financial Aid.

If you plan to enroll less than half time (less than 6 credits), you may apply for a private educational loan. For more information about loans, go to http://kirtland.edu/finaid/loans.htm or contact the Office of Financial Aid.
