OUTDOOR POWER ENGINES
ASSOCIATE IN APPLIED SCIENCE
CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION

More and more, people are enjoying the thrill of various recreational vehicles. Motorcycles, personal watercrafts, snowmobiles and other types of ATVs give many of us an escape from our daily routines and hours of fun outdoors.
But, like all motorized vehicles, these “toys” also need to be maintained and repaired. That, in turn, has created a demand for trained personnel with the specialized skills and educational background necessary to help do just that. And this demand is why we created the
Outdoor Power Engines program at our Michigan Technical Educational Center, or MTEC, at Kirtland-Gaylord, a state-of-the-art facility located adjacent to the Gaylord High School.
This unique program prepares students for employment as repair technicians for motorcycles, watercraft, snowmobiles, ATVs and other two- and four-cycle engines. The program provides competency-based learning experiences including theory and hands-on labs as well as internship opportunities.
At M-TEC, you’ll concentrate on the overall functions of the engines and diagnose or troubleshoot issues for repair. Students and graduates of this program have extensive opportunities for employment or transfer for further study with the nationally accredited and recognized educational leader in the field – Universal Technical Institute (UTI).
And don’t think you have to wait two years or more to start your career in this field. Students can choose to first complete a certificate in about a year, and then continue on and obtain their associate’s degree to become even more attractive to potential employers.
All these opportunities are yours here at Kirtland!
